Federal Climate Legislation

The U.S. House of Representatives will be voting on H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES), on Friday, June 26, 2009. Find out more about this legislation and contact your Congressperson to urge them to support ACES as it stands now and to work for improving amendments. (More Information)

Port Isobel 2009

The last weekend in April, VALCV-EF took a group of state legislators to Port Isobel, an island in the Chesapeake Bay, to see firsthand how important the Bay and conservation of our natural resources are to the Commonwealth's health, wildlife, economy and future. We canoed, fished and hiked while focusing attention on the threat that climate change poses to the Bay and how we can convert to a clean energy economy to help mitigate negative effects while strengthening our economy at the same time.

Presentations from Port Isobel 2009

The slide show above shows our legislators and their families enjoying Port Isobel and the Chesapeake Bay. Below is a photo of the group visiting the neighboring Tangier Island, members of this watermen community and their mayor.

2009 Legislative Contact Team Workshops:
Conservation in Changing Times

VALCV-EF and the Virginia Conservation Network, along with our local partner organizations, will hold a series of workshops throughout the Commonwealth this summer.  Legislative Contact Team (LCT) members and other participants (all are welcome!) will get a briefing on the 2009 General Assembly Session before a discussion of what we can all expect for conservation in the coming year.  This is an exciting time for conservation with so much happening in Virginia and at the federal level.

Sign up for the workshop here!

Please come join in the conversation and learn how to better advocate for the positive change we need!
