The
Role of the LCT as a Group &
Individual LCT Member Responsibilities
LCT Registration Online
LCT members can be involved at many different levels according to their own comfort level, prior experience, familiarity with the issues and available time. Keep in mind that becoming an LCT is not committing to taking a full-time job. It is committing to express your important viewpoints to your elected officials.
LCT members and team leads are not expected to do all of the following, however the LCT lead person for each group will be expected to coordinate the total efforts of the group and serve as the point person between VCN, VALCV-EF and the members of their particular LCT.

- Build a relationship with General Assembly members.
- Establish and coordinate avenues of communication between legislators and LCT members in the district during the General Assembly session and throughout the year.
- Assist in coordinating a lobbying session with members of the General Assembly at their home district office to discuss and promote legislative conservation goals
- Learn what's going on in conservation politics when yuo attend a VCN/VALCV Pre-Legislative Workshop at the VCN Legislative Day in December.
- Learn how to talk to and work with your legislators when you attend a regional VCN/VALCV lobbying workshop for Legislative Contact Team members.
- Get to know your fellow LCTs and other local activists during the General Assembly session. (This could include the VCN Lobby Day in January.)
- Communicate urgent legislative messages to your elected officials (by email, phone, fax or in person).
- Learn how to monitor voting patterns of legislators during the General Assembly session.
- Maintain on-going communication with VALCV-EF and VCN staff throughout the year; especially after LCT meetings with legislators.
- Keep apprised of legislative activities and conservation issues at the state level through communication with VALCV and VCN staff.
We understand that individuals have varying degrees of time availability and we welcome LCT members at all levels of involvement.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the LCT program. The most important part of the program is not to burden yourself with a list of chores, but to feel empowered with the help VCN and VALCV-EF provide.
Contact Mike Kaestner or Suzanne Ankrum for more information about the program and to find out where your abilities and available time best match our LCT needs.
