Mission

The Partnership for Smarter Growth is dedicated to ensuring a high quality of life in the greater Richmond region.  The Partnership understands that public policies and spending that enable suburban sprawl place a heavy burden on urban, suburban, and rural communities alike.  We believe that land use policies that support sprawling development contribute to higher taxes, blighted neighborhoods, transportation gridlock, and the destruction of open space, farmland, and the environment.  The Partnership’s mission is to promote smart growth policies and practices through education and advocacy in the greater Richmond region.

Goals

< Protect and improve the economic and socialvitality of existing communities.

< Prevent fiscally irresponsible and environmentally destructive proposals for sprawling development.

< Promote the development of vibrant, mixed use communities that provide housing and transportation choices.

< Bring attention to the necessity of coordinating land use and transportation planning throughout the region.

< Ensure that investments in schools, mass transit and other public infrastructure are made where needed, and represent theinterests of the community as a whole.

<  Preserve the region’s historical heritage, environmental wealth, and recreational resources.
