LAND USE AND TRANSPORTATION

Virginia has struggled for years to balance the growth and development with the desire to maintain the standards of living in existing communities.  Out of control growth in parts of Northern Virginia and the Tidewater area have lead to crushing traffic jams and frustrated citizens.  The answer to this dilemma lies in smart growth principles.

We must reestablish the link between our land use and transportation policies.  We must promote targeted growth so that citizens can live, work and play within walkable and dense communities.  And we must invest in transit systems that move people efficiently and easily from place to place.
