Update:

On July 21st, the Planning Commission approved the City of Richmond's Downtown Master Plan. This vision for a cohesive, connected Capital City is now in the hands of City Council. We must not lose our momentum in supporting this Plan and the open, inclusive process that created it. We have reached 1000 signatures, with a new goal of 1500 signatures to present to City Council. If you haven't yet, please sign the petition www.envisionrichmond.org.

Thanks to those of you who joined PSG at Church Hill's newly renovated Que Pasa Restaurant on Thursday August 14th. Que Pasa donated 10% of the night's proceeds to PSG, an amount which will cover the facilities cost for our training program in October! Thank you to Que Pasa Restaurant and the Smart Growthers who came out to learn more about PSG, Church Hill, and our role for a more vibrant Richmond.

Partnership for Smarter Growth is an education and advocacy nonprofit organization developed by and for citizens of Greater Richmond. Our mission is to preserve and enhance quality of life by educating the public and elected officials about land use, transportation, and other growth-related issues and equipping citizens to be effective advocates for balanced, responsible growth in their own communities and in the region as a whole.

Join Jim Donati, Henrico County staff, and a special guest presenter for a hands-on working group discussion regarding the Henrico 2026 Comprehensive Plan. This Varina District Town Meeting is sponsored by the Honorable James B. Sunday, September 21st: River City Saunter: A Smart Growth Bus Tour and Celebration

River City Saunter

Come celebrate the coalition of individuals, non-profits, businesses, and institutions partnering together for a smarter, more sustainable, more vibrant Richmond at PSG’s First Annual River City Saunter. 

2:00 - 4:00 p.m.: Smart Growth Bus Tour, guided by Rachel Flynn, Director of Community Development, City of Richmond; Brooke Hardin, Principle Planner, City of Richmond; and Daniel Moore, Principle Planner, Department of Conservation and Recreation. Park and convene at Legend Brewing Company, 321 West 7th Street, Richmond.

4:00-6:00 p.m.: Smart Growth Celebration at Legend Brewing Co., with locally grown heavy hors d’oeuvres, locally brewed beer, participating non-profit exhibits and a silent auction on bikes, transit-passes and other exciting transportation alternatives as well as local food products.

PSG is proud to announce live music featuring the eclectic roots rock of Richmond VA's own MOOSSA, who are dedicating their performance to support a more sustainable Richmond region.

Tickets are $25.00 each and include the tour, two drink tickets, hors d'oeuvres, great music, great company, and a contribution to the sustainment of a cause vital to the future of Richmond. Print the flyer here.

Saturday, October 4th: "The Grassroots is Always Greener," Advocacy Training Program

Fulfilling our mission to equip citizens and elected officials with the tools they need to become effective advocates for smart growth, Partnership for Smarter Growth, in conjunction with The Back Porch Initiatives, a Richmond-based non-profit, is proud to sponsor a Region-Wide Smart Growth Advocacy Training Program, The Grassroots is Always Greener, on Saturday, October 4th, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., at Centenary United Methodist Church, 411 East Grace Street, in Richmond.

Hot button issue in your locality?  Not sure how to leverage your constituency power?   Want to learn more about smart growth applications on the local level?  Learn from the experts, with Glen Besa from the Sierra Club, Martha Wingfield from Coalition for Hanover's Future, and other smart growth gurus.  Meet otherconcerned and active citizens from across the region, and take what you learn directly to your community.

Join the Envision Richmond Core Group Strategy Meetings, date TBA

Team up with other concerned citizens and help formulate the Envision Richmond campaign for a better City.  All committed to working toward a better city are welcome! 2nd floor Conference Room, 530 East Main Street, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.. Parking available on the top floor of nearby parking deck, entrance to the left of Cafe Ole on 6th Street. If you are interested in joining, contact Sheila Sheppard at psg@psgrichmond.org.

4th Mondays, August 25th and September 22nd: Join the Envision Henrico Core Group Strategy Meetings

Concerned citizens from Henrico have connected with one another to take an active role in the Vision 2026 Henrico Comprehensive Plan and ensure better public process in the creation of this powerful document.  The fellowship hall at Sandston Presbyterian Church, 13 North Confederate Avenue, 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
